The way you present yourself on an interview determines what the client’s initial impression of you will be. Dress appropriately and be on time. Have a copy of your resume and letters of reference with you.
Your initial interview with a prospective family is primarily an introduction for you and the family to get to know each other. This is the time to put forth your best. Ask about the children, what they enjoy doing, and about any particular activities that they are involved in. Tell the family what you have to offer and share positive experiences you have had in your previous jobs. Ask questions about the position and what will be expected of you.
Discretion is important. Refrain from revealing any personal information about previous employers. Unless the family is interested in discussing days off, time off, vacation days, sick pay, holidays or salary, you should reserve those topics for a second interview.
After this first meeting, you will find that the chemistry you have with the family will help you decide whether to pursue a second interview or trial day. We are in constant contact with you during this process. We provide feedback from the family and offer guidance and direction to help secure the best job that’s right for you.
