ABOUT OUR FAMILIES

Most of our clients are located in the Los Angeles area and surrounding neighborhoods, including Bel Air, Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Hancock Park, Los Feliz, Malibu, Santa Monica, the San Fernando Valley, South Bay, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena and Glendale.

Many of our clients have worked with us for years, as the needs of the household have changed. Some of our new clients are referred by friends who have hired through our Agency or employees we have placed with other families.
Whether our clients are searching for a nanny or housekeeper, they all expect a high level of professionalism and depend on the experience you have to offer. A cheerful disposition, a positive attitude, initiative and flexibility are some of the key qualifications that will help you in securing a position with a wonderful family.

QUALIFICATIONS

To apply with Domestic Affairs Agency, you must have at least two years of professional experience in the same field in which you are seeking a position. We must be able to talk to your previous employers to verify your references. You must be able to read, write and speak English fluently. All of our positions require driving, and if you are seeking a live-out position, you should have your own car. You must be authorized to work in the U.S. legally.

PLACEMENT PROCESS

Once you qualify to apply with Domestic Affairs Agency, you will fill out our employment application. You can apply on-line, then we will contact you for a personal interview. When you come into the Agency, you must have a detailed history of your past employment (names, addresses and telephone numbers of former employers) and your personal identification, including driver's license, social security and proof of legal work authorization. It is helpful if you have a resume and letters of reference.

Based on your criteria for a new position, we match you up with families that meet your needs. We provide you with details about the family and what they are looking for in a nanny.

We schedule interviews and follow up with feedback from the families. If both parties are interested, we arrange second interviews and trial days. When you are offered a position, we assist you in finalizing the details.

Domestic Affairs will provide the family with your DMV printout, social security verification and criminal background check.

The first week is a trial week for both you and the family. We are in contact with you during this time to determine if you and the family are interested in continuing employment.

HOW TO INTERVIEW

The way you present yourself on an interview determines what the client's initial impression of you will be. Dress appropriately and be on time. Have a copy of your resume and letters of reference with you.

Your initial interview with a prospective family is primarily an introduction for you and the family to get to know each other. This is the time to put forth your best. Ask about the children, what they enjoy doing, and about any particular activities that they are involved in. Tell the family what you have to offer and share positive experiences you have had in your previous jobs. Ask questions about the position and what will be expected of you.

Discretion is important. Refrain from revealing any personal information about previous employers. Unless the family is interested in discussing days off, time off, vacation days, sick pay, holidays or salary, you should reserve those topics for a second interview.

After this first meeting, you will find that the chemistry you have with the family will help you decide whether to pursue a second interview or trial day. We are in constant contact with you during this process. We provide feedback from the family and offer guidance and direction to help secure the best job that's right for you.
